I've just been thinking about how Fleming might have come up with the name of his supervillain organisation -- could it possibly have been inspired by the phrase "the specter of communism"?
Going from CIA (and US Navy) to MI6 00 Section??? That's problematic all by itself, lol!
Mine is Connery, with Dalton a close second
Then maybe security WAS actually present, but wasn't visible to the audience???
Also, regarding their far-right counterparts -- didn't Bond actually fight them (in particular, the NSAA) in the novel "Icebreaker"?
Yep, very plausible -- in fact, I've actually personally come up with a theory that SPECTRE was originally a joint Blofeld-Beria venture to replace the Comintern (which Stalin had disbanded during World War 2 to placate the Western Allies) with something similar, but more covert and more plausibly deniable, but Blofeld then went rogue with it (which, BTW, is a perfect explanation for how Rosa Klebb ended up working for SPECTRE -- she was originally there to keep them in line, but Blofeld flipped her and she became a rogue agent with him)! Also, this could explain the many creative ways in which SPECTRE gets rid of traitors and underachievers -- according to this version, this is not merely a reflection of Blofeld's personal creative sadism, but had originally evolved from the need to get rid of agents who had remained loyal to the KGB in ways which were plausibly deniable!
Speaking of, wasn't Tatiana Romanova (under cover as "Lady Chaplin") at one point working with BOTH the French mafia AND the KGB to recover a sunken American nuclear submarine (in the film "Special Mission Lady Chaplin")?

A better question, though, is how they will piece him back together and resurrect him after what happened in No Time to Die!
Not great, not terrible (hint hint)
But would the security always be visible???
Wasn't Spectre originally based on the Italian mafia?
Dalton wasn't bad, he was different -- and his portrayal of Bond was actually the closest to how The Old Man himself portrayed him in the novels! (Which is probably what turned people off -- they were used to the Moore comical Bond (pun intended), so Dalton's super-gritty Bond didn't click with them!)
Now THIS is one reason why they probably should NOT make it canon -- the LAST thing this franchise needs is a female, ethnic or (worst of all) gay James Bond, that would be the same as sh*tting on Ian Fleming's grave (and I speak as someone who used to believe firmly in the codename theory, and who still thinks it might be plausible)!
That might explain it -- OHMSS could be available in the UK only but not in the USA where I live!
Correction -- all of the Bond films are included in the Amazon Prime subscription EXCEPT On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which was NOT available on Amazon as of recently (unless they brought it back)!
Making James Bond female is just as much a travesty as making him black, or gay, or Chinese -- Fleming had specifically created him as a straight, white, Anglo-Saxon male (well, half English and half French, if you want to be pedantic), so to make obvious changes to any of these things is to sh*t on his grave (pardon my Hebrew)! Nor is there any need for this -- there are quite a few female agents out there of similar calibre and stature to Bond (Emma Peel, anyone???), and they can easily make a new franchise about one of those!
Fine by me! ;-)
Hello all, I've just seen an edit today where the word "rumors" on the page [[You Only Live Twice]] was changed to "rumours", with no other changes being made to the page -- which begs the question: is it official policy on this wiki that British English is the preferred language? I can understand why this would be the case, if it is (Fleming was British, after all) -- I just want to know, is it?
I think it would be great if he went on a joint mission with Jack Bauer -- lots of opportunities for interpersonal conflict between them (they don't trust each other's methods, Bond goes after Bauer's daughter which Bauer doesn't appreciate, etc., plus the usual MI6 vs. FBI rivalry)! As for James Bond working together with Indiana Jones, didn't they already put them together in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade???
There aren't any gadgets in Dr. No either, and not much in the way of one-liners (and not even an intro scene), but that doesn't mean it's not a real James Bond movie!
