Agent Mimi was a fictional Smersh agent who masqueraded as Lady Fiona McTarry, the widow of Lord McTarry ("M"), in order to discredit Sir James Bond by destroying his "celibate image". Portrayed by actress Deborah Kerr, the character appeared in the 1967 James Bond spoof film Casino Royale.

Biography[]

"Think of me as the second woman in your life. The one after Mata Hari."
― Agent Mimi to Sir James Bond.[src]

Agent Mimi was one of a dozen female Smersh agents involved in "Smersh Plan B" - a scheme to destroy the reputation of their celibate, upstanding spy nemesis, Sir James Bond. After the sudden death of spymaster Lord McTarry ("M"), Sir James Bond travelled to Scotland to return his remains to the grieving widow, Lady Fiona McTarry. However, the real Fiona had been replaced by Smersh's Agent Mimi - a competent operative with the most convincing Scottish accent. The rest of the household had been likewise replaced, with Smersh's aim to discredit Bond by destroying his "celibate image". Attempts by a bevy of beauties to seduce Bond failed, but Mimi/Lady Fiona became so impressed with Bond that she changed loyalties and helped the spy to foil the plot against him. She subsequently left her life of crime and became a nun. Some time later, she visits Bond (who by now has been promoted to M) in her nun guise and provides information to him following the abduction of Mata Bond.

Trivia[]

  • Deborah Kerr later recounted how she had been approached by director Charles K. Feldman to star in Casino Royale and was offered a sizeable sum with enormous daily costs if production exceeded the ten days she was contracted to work. In the end, production lasted for eight weeks, with Kerr spending most of her time in the dressing-room. Commenting on her resulting pay-check, Kerr noted that the large sum of money was used to build a swimming-pool at their home in Switzerland, which she humorously christened "The Charles K. Feldman Memorial Swimming Pool".[1]
  • At 45, she was arguably the oldest "Bond Girl" in any James Bond film, until Monica Bellucci, at the age of 50, in Spectre (2015).
  • The film never confirms the fate of the real Lady Fiona, nor any of McTarry's daughters, assuming he actually had any.
