The BR-12, or Blade-Rise 12, was a fictional two-man mortar which fired a special "bouncing" high-explosive projectile. It was produced in 1934 by international weapons manufacturer, Blade-Rise Industries. The weapon appeared in Steve Cole's 2016 Young Bond novel, Strike Lightning.

Appearances[]

The BR-12 mortar fires a special high-explosive projectile. The shell uses a tiny rocket motor to "bounce" off the ground of the target area. Fragmentation thus occurs in mid-air, causing far greater damage.[1] In 1934, as part of an on-going espionage agreement with the British government and their Secret Intelligence Service, the company planned to sell approximately 30,000 BR-12 mortars to the Germans.[1] They would unwittingly contribute towards the cost of developing a secret weapon for Britain - an exo-suit dubbed the "Steel Shadow". The weapon was used in field tests against the Steel Shadow and was notable for indirectly killing SS stabsscharführer, Konstantin Grünner, when Hepworth Blade breached the Winter Immer foundry's furnace with a BR-12 mortar. The room was flooded with a stream of molten copper, incinerating Grünner and detonating a nearby arms storeroom.
