- "Ah, the Bentley Continental GT coupé . . . the finest off-the-peg vehicle in the world, Bond believed."
- ― Carte Blanche.
The Bentley Continental GT was a grand tourer automobile produced by the British manufacturer Bentley Motors since 2003. James Bond owned a 2011 model Continental GT in granite grey, with black hide interior. The vehicle was prominently featured in Jeffery Deaver's 2011 James Bond continuation novel, Carte Blanche.
Appearances[]
In Deaver's continuity, the Bentley Continental GT coupé is one of two cars owned by James Bond; the second being a 1960s E-type Jaguar, which had belonged to his father, Andrew Bond. Inheriting his father's love of Bentley Motors, James had bought his first Continental sometime between the mid-1990s and 2000s, depleting what remained of the life-insurance payment that had come his way upon his parents' deaths in December 1990.[2] He'd recently traded up to the 2011 model worth £125,000. Bond utilized it as his primary vehicle while in Britain and, when on business, could phone in an NDR – a Null Detain Request – to ensure his number plate was ignored by speed traps. In order to stealthily pursue Severan Hydt across London, 007 temporarily swapped his Bentley for Ophelia Maidenstone's black-and-red Mini Cooper. To further throw off the villain he had the ODG's "T Branch" adjust the records of the Bentley to link the number plate to a disposal company in Manchester with possible underworld ties.
Trivia[]
- To tie-in with novel's release, Hodder & Stoughton partnered with Bentley to create an exclusive "Bentley Special Edition" which consisted of a leather-bound, Bentley-branded novel encased in a metal car silhouette box. The product was limited to 500 copies worldwide at a price of £1,000 ($1,650 US) each.[3]
- A controversial choice among 007 aficionados, the Bentley Continental GT had a reputation as the vehicle of Premier League footballers.[4]
