The Cagiva W16 600 is a enduro-style motorcycle featured in 1995 James Bond movie GoldenEye. Produced by the Italian Cagiva, the W16 is part of the company's W-series motorcycles introduced in 1991, which was the successor to Cagiva's prior T-series motorcycles.

The W16 variant was produced from 1994 to 2001 and has the same frame and very few differences from its younger sister, the 350 cm³ W12. The W16's engine however is a newer one, shared with the Cagiva River 600 and Canyon 500 and 600. Despite having many desirable features - such as Marzocchi forks, Brembo brakes and excellent handling all out of the box - the W16 did not find much success in the over-saturated motorcycle market of the 1990s.

History[]

The Cagiva W16 motorcycles are featured in the pre-titles chapter, at the Arkangel Chemical Weapons Facility. Having set the explosives and with Alec Trevelyan "dying" at the hands of Colonel Ourumov, James Bond makes his escape out the bottling room by riding a conveyor belt while shooting the hatch that releases a barrage of empty canisters at Ourumov's men, buying a running start for himself. Outside, Bond spots the Pilatus PC-6 plane and tries to catch it in order to get out the facility that's about to explode.

Bond riding the Cagiva W16 to catch the Pilatus PC-6 plane.

Ourumov sends his men after Bond, and after having gunned down a few Soviet troops, Bond makes a mad dash to the plane. Subsequently, two motorcycle troops riding Cagiva W16 motorcycles go after Bond. Bond reaches plane and gets in struggle with the pilot. Meanwhile, one of the bikers reach the plane and tries to draw a gun to shoot Bond. However, during the struggle, Bond manages to draw his silenced PPK to shoot the first biker.

Bond's struggle with pilot leads the former to cause both men to fall out of the plane. Soon, the second biker arrives and ends up crashing into the pilot, disabling the biker and killing the pilot. Bond takes the second biker's Cagiva and chases the unpiloted plane down the runway, which getting close of going off the cliff.

Ourumov and his men cease pursuit, as Ourumov thinks Bond is attempting something impossible and get himself killed. The plane goes off the cliff, with Bond speeding off after it, diving to catch it while the Cagiva is lost in the cliffs.

Trivia[]

  • Not counting the Honda ATV from Diamonds are Forever or the Yamaha XJ 650 Seca Turbo from Never Say Never Again, the Cagiva W16 W600 is the first motorcycle driven by Bond on-screen in an EON-produced James Bond movie.
  • Soviet troops riding the Cagiva W16 (or any W-series Cagiva) is anachronistic, as the pre-title sequence in GoldenEye takes place in 1986, with the W-series introduced in 1991 and the W16 in 1994. This applies to the prior T4 model as well, which was introduced in 1987.
  • Green Cagiva motorcycles are used by Italian (W12 model) and French (T4 model) armies.
