Heckler & Koch

Heckler & Koch AG (or H&K for short) is a German weapons manufacturer that produces high quality firearms. The company was founded in December 1949 by engineers Edmund Heckler, Theodor Koch and Alex Seidel -- all whom had previously worked at Mauser. The company first manufactured parts for sewing machines, tools and other miscellaneous machines. In mid-1950s, they returned to their Mauser/firearms manufacturing roots, when they were commissioned to produce a new rifle for the West German Bundeswehr, that would ultimately become the G3.

The company is primarily based in Oberndorf am Neckar in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Overseas, it also has branches in the UK, France and the USA.
