Chen was a scientist in the employ of Dr. Julius No, appearing in the 1962 James Bond film Dr. No. He was portrayed by Anthony Chinn.
Biography[]
As part of No's extensive nuclear operations in Crab Key, near the island of Jamaica, Chen was employed as the overseer of the decontamination facilities. He, along with No's other henchmen in that vicinity, were required to wear protective radiation suits.
During their infiltration of Crab Key, James Bond and Honey Ryder were captured by the crew of the Dragon, a flame tank utilized to keep the locals at bay; the two were brought to Chen's region of No's facility. As they were suspected of being radioactive as a result of their time on the island without proper protective gear, Chen and other technicians forced the duo to undress and utilized their equipment to reduce their radiation to "safe levels."
Some time later, Bond managed to escape the custody of No's guards. He encountered Chen and strangled him to death, stealing his HAZMAT suit; this disguise would prove indispensable to Bond thwarting No's operations on Crab Key, eventually resulting in the doctor's death and the facility's destruction.
