Cooper is a karate expert (possibly judo as well), and employee of the British Secret Service. The character appears in the 1967 James Bond spoof film Casino Royale and was portrayed by British/Australian actor Terence Cooper.

Biography[]

After Sir James Bond is promoted to the head of MI6 following his predecessor's demise, he learns that many British agents around the world have been eliminated by enemy spies because of their inability to resist sex. He sets Moneypenny to the task of establishing a rigorous programme to train heterosexual male agents to ignore the charms and advances of women. Moneypenny recruits "Coop", a karate expert who begins training to resist seductive women. Shortly thereafter, Sir James orders that all remaining MI6 operatives (including Moneypenny) will be named "James Bond 007", to confuse SMERSH.

Moneypenny is very taken with Cooper and falls for his charms, but Coop has the paradoxical job of being irresistible to women, while simultaneously being able to resist any of their charms and spurn them. He clearly struggles with this, and at one point, a number of MI6 operatives including the Detainer attempt to seduce him in training at a gym. At the end one of the women asks him what he is doing afterwards and he says that he is having his head examined.

At the end of the film Sir James and Moneypenny travel to Casino Royale to rescue Mata Bond. They discover that the casino is located atop a giant underground headquarters run by the evil Dr. Noah, secretly Sir James' nephew Jimmy Bond, a former MI6 agent who defected to SMERSH to spite his famous uncle. Sir James, Moneypenny, Mata and Coop manage to escape from their cell and fight their way back to the Casino Director's office where Sir James establishes Vesper Lynd is a double agent. The casino is then overrun by secret agents and a battle ensues. American and French support arrive, but just add to the chaos. Eventually, the atomic pill which Jimmy was duped into swallowing explodes, destroying Casino Royale with everyone inside. Coop and the allies then appear in heaven, playing golden harps.
