Dr. Symes was a fictional scientist, one of a number of scientists employed by the Secret Intelligence Service to develop the secret nanonweapon "Heracles." Portrayed by Priyanga Burford, she appeared in the film No Time to Die.
Biography[]
A specialist in genetics and nanorobotics, Dr. Symes has worked for over a decade on the creation of the nanonweapon Heracles. One morning, she finds that she is missing a sample of weaponized smallpox that she was working with. She asks a fellow scientist, Dr. Hardy, if he's seen it. Hardy asks Valdo Obruchev, one of their colleagues, if he's seen it, and it turns out that he's holding it a container he had been using to store food. Symes grins, but Obruchev threatens to one day put Ebola in their tea in response.
Following this, the facility is raided by the criminal organization SPECTRE. Symes asks the SPECTRE agents what they want, saying that they're scientists and unarmed. When the agents learn from Obruchev that access to Heracles requires an authorization from Hardy, Symes pleads with him not to cooperate. As Obruchev and Hardy are taken away by Primo, she and the other remaining scientists are shot dead by mercenaries.
Behind the scenes[]
- Dr. Symes's actress, Priyanga Burford, stated in an interview that she loved being a part of Bond movie history. For her audition for the role, a lot of improvisation was required. She filmed at Pinewood in 2019 and on looking back on it in late 2021 felt like it was a really long time due to all of the delays in the film's release. She very briefly met James Bond actor Daniel Craig. Of the film's writers, she stated that she felt that they "have done an amazing job bringing the story, this franchise and the character into in the 21st century."[1]
