Solstice - Small Title Graphic NovelLocationsEquipmentCharactersTimeline

Solstice is a one-shot Dynamite James Bond graphic novel, set within its own continuity, and written and illustrated by American comic book writer/artist, Ibrahim Moustafa. The story was first published by Dynamite Entertainment on November 22, 2017. It was one of four books subsequently published in the "James Bond: Case Files" anthology on 7th August 2018.

Plot[]

The story begins with James Bond infiltrating a Turkish facility and setting explosives; during which his wristwatch's faulty remote detonator fails to actuate and instead gives away his position with its flash-flare function. Bond returns to London where, to Major Boothroyd's chagrin, he refuses to return it to Q Branch and keeps it for himself. After exchanging yuletide greetings with Miss Moneypenny, he meets with M, who uncharacteristically refers to him by his first name, and offers him a off-the-books assignment to help deal with a personal matter. An ex-FSB agent (Anatoly Zima) has wooed an estranged relative of an MI6 employee; strongly implied to be M, himself. Officially they cannot touch him, but unofficially M wants 007 to remove him from the equation before he can use the girl.

Bond travels to Paris, where is provided a firearm by René Mathis's tailor associates and eavesdrops on the couple during a romantic dinner. While they attend the ballet Bond forces entry into Zima's flat and discovers a cache of weapons and incriminating evidence. Unbeknownst to 007, he is watched by CCTV cameras and the Russian intercepts him in his hotel suite. He holds Bond at gunpoint and it is revealed that the disgraced Zima intends to use the girl (Solstice) to compromise M; ingratiating himself with his former Russian masters. Ostensibly checking the time using his watch, 007 disorientates Zima with its flash-flare and the pair brawl around the suite - culminating with Bond strangling the Russian to death. After using Zima's phone to break up the couple he tosses it in the Seine and returns to London. He meets M at Trafalgar Square and is debriefed. The story ends with M thanking Bond, staring sentimentally at the photo of Solstice as the spy walks away.
