Montenegro is a republic in Southeast Europe on the Adriatic Sea. It borders Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest; Serbia and Kosovo to the east, Albania to the south and Croatia to the west. Montenegro has an area of 13,812 square kilometres and a population of 620,079 (2011 census). Its capital Podgorica is one of the twenty-three municipalities in the country. Cetinje is designated as the Old Royal Capital. Montenegro was part of Yugoslavia between December 1918 and February 2003, and Serbia-Montenegro until June 2006.

The country makes its first official Bond appearance in the 2006 James Bond film, Casino Royale. During the film, MI6 enters James Bond in a high-stakes Texas hold 'em tournament against the villainous Le Chiffre at the Casino Royale in Montenegro.
