The Firing Officer[1] was a fictional unnamed officer of the British Royal Navy serving on-board the Type 23 frigate, HMS Chester. A minor ally portrayed by British actor, Anthony Green, the character appeared in the 1997 James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies. The character was also briefly mentioned in the film's accompanying novelisation.
Biography[]
Stationed on HMS Chester, the unnamed British officer operated her weapon systems. In 1997[2], the vessel was ordered by Admiral Roebuck to launch a cruise missile at a terrorist market on the Russian border. The lieutenant was responsible for firing the weapon and attempted to abort the attack once it was discovered that nuclear weapons were present at the bazaar. By that point, the missile was out of range of the Chester and could not be remotely destroyed.
