Fordyce was a fictional operative of "MI5" and tailor assigned to their Agents' Outfitting department. Portrayed by the British actor John Wells, the character appeared in the 1967 parody spy film, Casino Royale.

Biography[]

"I shouldn't touch that pen, sir. As soon as the nib touches the paper, it releases a stream of poisonous gas into the writer's eye."
― Fordyce cautions Evelyn Tremble.[src]

Fordyce was a tailor who oversaw the Agents' Outfitting department of the "James Bond 007 Training School", ostensibly located in the basement of the Harrods department store in Knightsbridge, London. He is slightly catty and haughty and moonlights as a Harrods' employee. Somewhat haughty and effete, he is heavily implied to be homosexual. On the morning of the 14th March, he and his superior Q outfitted prospective spy Evelyn Tremble with an American-designed two-way television and radio wristwatch, and "protective clothing".

Trivia[]

  • Actor John Wells would later portray Denis Thatcher in the 1981 EON-produced James Bond film, For Your Eyes Only.
  • Fordyce is sometimes credited as "Q's Assistant", although Q in fact has several assistants, and refers to Fordyce by name.
  • Fordyce is one of the earliest gay, or at least extremely camp, characters in Bond.
