The Glass-Shattering Ring was a piece of Q Branch technology, that was given to James Bond ahead of his mission to stop Gustav Graves. As described by Q it is an "ultra high frequency, single digit, sonic agitator unit."
History[]
During his demonstration of his equipment, Q requested a firearm from James Bond, and proceeded to shoot at the unbreakable glass, proving that bullets would not shatter the glass. Q then demonstrated the Glass-Shattering Ring, by placing it onto the glass, twisting the ring, shattering the pane. As Q explained how the technology worked, Bond noted that he was "cleverer than he looked", to which Q insisted that this was "better than looking cleverer than you are."
While he was attempting to assassinate Gustav Graves, Bond had swiftly found himself becoming cornered and outgunned by the arrival of Zao and Miranda Frost, who had revealed herself to be a traitor to MI6 and was actually working with Graves, leaving Bond on his knees with Frost preparing to execute him. However, at the last moment, Bond twisted his ring and placed his hand on the glass floor, causing it to shatter. As a result, Bond and Frost fell through the shattered glass and Bond ran for his life, with Frost and Zao continuing to shoot at him.
