The Heckler & Koch G36 (designated Gewehr G36, Caliber 5.56 mm x 45 by the German Bundeswehr) is a modular assault rifle designed in West Germany in the 1980s and 1990s. It has been the main infantry weapon in the Bundeswehr since 1997.

The construct of the gun has all possible metal parts replaced with high-quality plastic. For example, the body of the gun is made of carbon fiber reinforced polyamide, where stainless steel parts have been added only to the points subjected to the greatest stress.

There are different variations of the G36 weapon, such as the shortened version G36K (K is an abbreviation of the word Kurz 'short', an even shorter compact version G36C (Compact) which has removed the optical sights and replaced them with STANAG rail and diopter sights. There is also a civilian variant known as SL8.
