James Bond Jr.: A View to a Thrill is a spin-off novelisation based on the pilot episode of the 1991 animated spin-off television series James Bond Jr. The book was written by John Vincent (the nom de plume of John Peel), who adapted six episodes of the cartoon James Bond Jr. for Puffin books. The plot revolves around a plot by criminal organisation S.C.U.M. to steal James Bond Jr's high-tech car and its top secret EMP device.

Plot Summary

James Bond Jr arrives at his new school in his uncle's borrowed Aston Martin. It's been fitted with an experimental device that S.C.U.M. wants and they send Jaws to dispose of James and his friends and obtain the car.

Behind the scenes

James Bond Jr. was an American animated television series, produced by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Animation, and debuted on 30 September 1991, with a total of 65 half-hour episodes produced. Around the same time author John Peel was approached by publisher Daniel Weiss Associates to write tie-in novels for the series.[1] Peel, a fan of the series since You Only Live Twice was initially enthusiastic about the project, but subsequently discovered that he would not be allowed to use his own name on the covers and was provided the name "John Vincent", which Peel would later suspect to be a comic reference to self-help writer Norman Vincent Peale.[1] In addition and more seriously, he described the material he had to work with as "bad. Really bad."[1] Consequently, his editor selected the "six least-worst scripts for me to work on, and there was a lot to be done to make them readable."[1]
