Joe Robinson (1927-2017) was an English actor and stuntman born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland. His brother is also a stuntman and actor, Doug Robinson. The Robinsons were a famous family of wrestlers, is son and grandson of world champions. Joe portrayed the diamond smuggler Peter Franks in Diamonds Are Forever. Before that, the actor played Thor in the peplum Thor and the Amazon Women (1963) and appeared in the successful series The Saint (1963) and The Avengers (1963).
Bond involvement[]
According to Joe Robinson, prior to appearing in Diamonds Are Forever, he was a contender for the role of assassin Red Grant opposite actor Robert Shaw in From Russia with Love (1963)[1]. He later dubbed actor Ronald Rich (Hans) in some scenes in the film You Only Live Twice (1967). Although Robinson did not get the role of Grant, Sean Connery recommended him for the role of Peter Franks,[2] which would be the actor's last film appearance before his retirement.
