King Industries Plc. is a multinational oil company owned by Sir Robert King and subsequently by his daughter Elektra King. It is featured in the 1999 James Bond film, The World Is Not Enough, and its accompanying novelisation penned by Raymond Benson.

Film appearance[]

Originally, King Industries focused on construction, headed by Sir Robert King. Sir Robert married a woman named from Azerbaijan, who was the daughter of Mr. Vavra, who owned an oil exploration firm which had been in his family for generations, but had been nationalized the Soviets. After the fall of the USSR and the independence of Azeribaijan, the oil company was given back to the Vavra family. During this time, Robert King sired a daughter, Elektra. Elektra's mother died at an unspecified time, and soon her grandfather passed as well. When Mr. Vavra died, he willed the oil company to his son-in-law, having no surviving children to name as beneficiaries. Robert King amalgamated the Vavra oil firm with his construction company.

As a result of this merger of industries, King Industries grew, branching into real estate development, as well as installing oil pipelines across the world.

After Sir Robert was killed by Elektra, King Industries passed into her hands. Embittered by her father's refusal to ransom her from her kidnapping, as well as her maternal grandfather's decision to give his business to somebody who was not a native of Azerbaijan, she sought to take her revenge on the world, by blowing up a nuclear submarine in Istanbul in order to allow her to monopolize the world's oil market and ruin her competitors.

Elektra was shot dead by James Bond, and her plan to make King Industries the world's only supplier of crude oil was foiled. What became of the company after this is never known.
