Having been given the gift, Bond ignited the lighter, which let out a surprising high burst of flame, shocking the three of them and causing them to jump back.
During Bond's mission to avenge the injured Felix and the murdered Della, Bond engaged in a final confrontation with Franz Sanchez, resulting in them crashing a Kenworth W-900 and covering Sanchez in gasoline. While Sanchez attempted to kill the injured Bond with a machete, Bond pulled out the lighter that the Leiters had gifted him, revealing to Sanchez the motive behind his mission, before he ignited the gasoline covering Sanchez, causing him to burst into flames and be killed, while Bond escaped the resulting explosion.
