"Mask", also known by the alias "William Baxter", was the code-name of a impersonator and member of the criminal organisation, S.C.U.M.. A one-shot villain, the character appeared in episode 19 ("Hostile Takeover") of the 1991 spin-off animated television series, James Bond Jr..

Biography[]

A member of S.C.U.M., the otherwise unnamed villain was known by the codename "Mask" on account of the grimacing mask he wore underneath his hooded cloak. Like the Chameleon, he was a master of disguise, capable of changing his appearance using technology referred to as a "cloaking device" or "imager". He was physically intimidating, capable of besting one of Warfield Academy's strongest students in a one-on-one brawl. With an intellect to match his brawn, Mask headed an elaborate scheme to abduct and impersonate Admiral Billings, the chief of the British Secret Service. Exploiting the Admiral's role as head of Warfield's board of directors, Mask and his accomplices intended to kidnap him during his annual inspection tour of the school.

After failing to assassinate the school's principal, Bradford Milbanks, Mask instead tricked the school staff into leaving. Posing as temporary principal, "William Baxter", the villain replaced academic staff with disguised agents and began a campaign of ingratiating himself with the school's student population. In a bid to win over the sceptical James Bond Jr., Mask staged an attack during a fencing competition; intervening and saving him as the dashing "Mr. Baxter". However, Bond remained suspicious, and, under the cover of darkness, eavesdropped on the villain's meeting. Chased by Mask's men, Bond seemingly fell to his death and, his cover blown, the villain had his friends imprisoned in the dormitory building. Mask's scheme was ultimately foiled by Bond, who used a "cloaking device" to swap appearances with one of the henchmen. Alone with Mask and Billings, Bond revealed himself and imprisoned the villain in the principal's office. With the assistance of his friends, the remaining infiltrators were detained and Mask was presumably taken into custody.
