Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (initialized as MGM; common metonym: the Lion or Leo) is an American film distribution company that has distributed all 25 James Bond films produced by Eon and 2 unofficial ones since 1981, when MGM purchased United Artists. In 1997 UA was retired and MGM was the sole distributor. In 2010, MGM entered bankruptcy, putting Skyfall production on hold for several months but has since recovered.

However, Walt Disney Pictures, Warner Bros., or some other distribution companies battling for the distribution rights as Sony did to the James Bond film series and to distribute No Time to Die if it depends on it.[1] On May 24, 2018. it's revealed that Universal Pictures has won to distribute No Time to Die while MGM retains the US distribution rights with Annapurna Pictures through their joint venture distribution company (United Artists Releasing) as well as digital and worldwide TV distribution rights.[2] Due to the existing contract, Bond 26 will still be distributed by Universal despite MGM's new 3-year international deal with Warner Bros - which took effect on August 14, 2022.[3]
On May 26, 2021, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was acquired by Amazon for $8.45 billion. At the time, the company confirmed that it plans to continue theatrical distribution of James Bond films.[4]
