Mindfield was the thirty-fifth episode of the 1991 animated television series, James Bond Jr, produced by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Animation. Written by Francis Moss and Ted Pedersen, the episode first aired on US television on 1st November 1991.
Plot[]
The episode begins with James Bond Jr. and a fellow student, Sue Sayer, cycling outside Warfield Academy. They are attacked by Ms. Fortune and Snuffer in a helicopter, whose attempt to abduct Sue is foiled by Bond fashioning a pair of bolas from his sneakers and hurling them into the craft's tail rotors. Later, Bond is suspicious of Sue's uncanny perceptiveness; as is Trevor, who is determined to show her to be cheating in exams. That evening, she uses psychic powers to deduce that Trevor is snooping in her room. Trevor blackmails her, threatening to lie to the Principal unless she tells him her secret. She goes to Bond and the gang, who decide to prank him with a phoney cheating device. I.Q. also provides Bond with a Survival Bubble Belt and Bubble-Bursting Ring.
Lurking outside Warfield, it is revealed that Fortune and Snuffer have been sent by S.C.U.M. Lord to kidnap Sue for her telepathic powers; reading world leaders' minds to obtain the location of treasure belonging to rival micro-nations San Cristobal and Verzano. The treasure is due to be transferred back to each respective nation as part of a historic peace treaty. The villains release a Hunter Probe from their helicopter, which bursts through Sue's dormitory window as she talks with Bond; knocking them both out with Anaesthetic Gas and abducting them. The other students follow them using the homing beacon on I.Q.s belt. Bond and Sue are flown to the San Cristobal embassy in London; where she is forced to use her powers to retrieve the location of the treasure handover from the diplomat inside: the Hotel Monte del Diablo on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.
Once there, the villains take over the hotel, place a bomb in the island's volcano (the hotel is built around its crater) and bind the pair in the swimming pool. Tracy, I.Q., Phoebe and Gordo arrive on the island and unwittingly join a sightseeing tour. After the tour-guide locks them in the bus, they steal it and head for the hotel. As the San Cristobal dignitaries arrive, the villains try to drown Bond; but he manages to escape with the help of I.Q.'s ring - disrupting his shackles' molecular bonds. Meanwhile, Fortune stuns the dignitaries and uses Sue to obtain the vault combinations from their unconscious minds. She steals the jewels, seals Sue and the dignitaries in the vault and arms the volcano bomb to cover their tracks. Sue telepathically communicates with Bond and gives him the combination to release her. Bond seals the bomb in a bubble using his belt and rolls it down the volcano toward Ms. Fortune's yacht; which is sunk along with the treasure in the resulting explosion. Meanwhile, back at Warfield, Trevor is missing patches of hair, having taken Sue's (and Bond's) advice to stick the fake electrodes to his head.
