"Torture is easy, on a superficial level. A man can watch himself being disemboweled and derive great horror from the experience, but it's still going on at a distance. It isn't taking place where he is. As you know all too well, dear Madeleine, a man lives inside his head; that's where the seed of his soul is."
Ernst Stavro Blofeld to Madeleine Swann[src]

Neurosurgical Chair was a device utilised by Ernst Stavro Blofeld to attempt to damage James Bond's brain beyond repair.

History[]

Spectre (film)[]

"I'm going to penetrate to, where you are, to the inside of your head. Now, the first probe will play with your sight, your hearing, and your balance, just with the subtlest of manipulations."
Ernst Stavro Blofeld to James Bond[src]

Following the capture of James Bond and Madeleine Swann, the pair were taken to another room within the Saharan Crater Facility, where Ernst Stavro Blofeld had Bond strapped to the Neurosurgical Chair. Blofeld explained that he would drill into Bond's brain and damage his sight, hearing and balance, with Bond telling Blofeld to stop talking and get on with it. Blofeld proceeded to drill into Bond's skull using the chair, much to the horror of Swann.

Once this phase was complete, Blofeld explained his motivations to Bond and Swann, before beginning the next phase of drilling, which he promised would cause Bond to forget Swann's face, and live the rest of his life not knowing who she was. However, Blofeld allowed Swann to go to Bond's aid, which resulted in Swann being handed Bond's Explosive Wristwatch, which she threw at Blofeld's feet, destroying the machine's controls and injuring Blofeld. This allowed Bond and Swann to make their escape, with the base exploding shortly afterwards, destroying the chair as a result.
