The Orthodox Priest (wrongfully named 'Coptic Priest' in the credits) was a fictional unnamed priest who briefly appeared in the 1999 James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, portrayed by American-Armenian actor Diran Meghreblian. The character also appeared in Raymond Benson's accompanying novelisation.
Biography[]
Since Sir Robert King planned to demolish a village church in rural Azerbaijan for the new King pipeline, the villagers started to revolt, damaging King Industries property, including burning cars. Elektra King flies in from Baku in order to stop the revolts and avoid any bloodsheds (armed guards were hired by King Industries to protect the building site). After her arrival, Elektra meets with the priest in his church, and tells him that the pipeline would be built in a slightly different place, saving the church. The priest leaves the church and proclaims the church had been rescued.
Trivia[]
- In the credits, the character is listed as 'Coptic Priest'. This is technically wrong, since the Copts are based in Northern Africa (primarily Egypt), not in Eurasia.
