Quantum Diamonds was the fifty-sixth episode of the 1991 animated television series, James Bond Jr, produced by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Animation. Written by Francis Moss and Ted Pedersen, the episode first aired on US television on 2nd December 1991.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Jaws and Nick Nack hijacking a trainload of coal in Wyoming, United States. Meanwhile, James Bond Jr and the students are visiting Yellowstone National Park with Coach Mitchell. He strikes up a conversation with geologist Vicki Jones who is examining crystals at the famous geyser, Old Faithful. To Trevor's shock, Tracy requests that they hike together. In search of a crystal for his latest scheme, Dr. Derange and his henchmen travel to Old Faithful and, after chasing away the students, lower Jaws into the geyser in a pressurised diving suit. He returns to the surface with a crystal, which Vicki snatches from him. In the process, Bond ends up dangling precariously over the erupting geyser as the villains chase after the girl. As it erupts, Bond triggers I.Q.'s Inflatable Raft Backpack; using it to ride the fountain and parachute to earth.
The students chase after the geologist in their SUV and rescue her from the assailants, who end up totalling their van. Elsewhere in the park, Tracy and Trevor end up attracting the attention of bears by feeding a cub. While taking Vicki to a nearby university science lab, the Warfield SUV is set upon and shot to pieces by Derange in a S.C.U.M. helicopter. They abandon the damaged vehicle and shoot at the mad scientist with a makeshift geyser cannon. The villains swoop down, grab the crystal and fell a tree that rolls downhill toward Bond and Vicki. Bond propels them over it with I.Q.'s Compressed Air Boots.
Getting into what is left of their 4x4, the students use a radar built into Bond's watch to track Derange to the science lab. He intends to use their particle accelerator to transforming the coal and crystal into priceless diamonds. The gang arrive at the accelerator to stop Derange, but Vicki betrays the group and ties up I.Q.; revealing she was examining Old Faithful for the same reason as the doctor. While Bond and Buddy overpower the villains with a fire hose and forklift, Vicki runs into the accelerator chamber and takes the crystal. Bond follows her, but both are trapped inside by Derange. They are narrowly saved by Burton and I.Q., who shut down the system. Foiled again, the villains flee. The episode ends with Bond rescuing Trevor from the bears as he hides in a tree.
