Quentin Dale, is a Q Branch employee, who fills the traditional Q role in the 2013 James Bond Novel Solo by William Boyd.
Biography[]
Solo[]
Dale was a bespectacled youth who worked in Q Branch in the basement of the SIS headquarters. A few months into his career, he was introduced to James Bond, whom he briefed on his preparation and equipment for his mission to Zanzarim. Because Bond's cover was as a French photojournalist, they decided he would not be allowed to carry a gun into the Northern airport, where the French were not trusted for aiding the opposing side in their Civil War, but the French cover was chosen as Bond's mission was to be in the French-sympathetic South. Quentin equipped Bond with, and possibly created some powerful stunning agents disguised as shave butter and talcum powder a tablespoon of the shave butter would knock a man out for twelve hours, and a teaspoon of the talcum powder would send a person into a three day coma. The talcum powder was completely tasteless, and two or three teaspoons would induce a heart attack at the end of the coma. Quentin then gave Bond a file containing his plane ticket, and information on the local station before seeing him out.
Trivia[]
- Dale's description and mannerisms make him bear more than a passing resemblance to Ben Whishaw's Q from the 2012 film Skyfall, which released a year before Solo.
