The R-11, also nicknamed The Million-Dollar Train[4], is a prototype class of experimental New York City subway cars built by the Edward G. Budd Manufacturing Company in 1949. The train appeared prominently during the conclusion of Anthony Horowitz's 2015 James Bond continuation novel Trigger Mortis.

The R-11 cars were built at the end of the 1940s and rolled out on the New York City Subway. With their shot-welded stainless steel body and distinctive porthole windows, flourescent lighting and steel strap-hangers, each car had cost $10,000, coming to be known as The Million-Dollar Train.[4] Circa 1957[5], SMERSH operative Jason Sin attempts to use an R-11 subway train to deliver a bomb and a phony Vanguard space rocket to Manhattan, New York, in a bid to destroy the Empire State Building, framing the American Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) for the disaster and destroying the U.S. space program.

Departing from the Coney Island depot, it was the only train making the journey on the Sixth Avenue line from Coney Island to 34th Street, the points changed and signals turned green by a train-master in Sin's pay.[3] Sin's train was composed of five carriages - the locomotive, a flat-bed maintenance vehicle carrying the replica rocket (covered and chained in place), a carriage containing 150 lbs of C4 plastic explosives[1], a car with a taskforce of seven armed men, and finally a second engine car for the return journey. With the assistance of U.S. Department of the Treasury agent Jeopardy Lane, 007 boards the train at the Fourth Avenue subway station and dangerously works his way across the vehicle's curved roof. He disables the bomb and, after a firefight, derails the train using makeshift grenades composed of C4 and blast caps.
