Roald Dahl was a Welsh novelist, poet, and screenwriter who wrote the screenplay for the 1967 film You Only Live Twice. He was a friend of Ian Fleming, and helped adapt his novel Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to the screen.

Biography[]

During WW2, Dahl served in the RAF, before being invalided out following a crash. He was then sent to the USA, as a British envoy, engaging in spying.

Although best remembered as a children's author today, he was also a well respected writer of short stories for adults, many of which were adapted for the British TV series Tales of the Unexpected.

Some of his notable writings include James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Witches, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Twits, George's Marvellous Medicine and The BFG.

Family[]

Dahl's family were of Norwegian origin originally. He is related to the model Sophie Dahl.
