The flag of Scotland

Scotland (Gaelic: Alba) is a country in the northern part of the island of Great Britain. It comprises approximately one third of the island's area and belongs to the United Kingdom.

Scotland formed a personal union with England in 1603 and united with England in 1707 to form one state. In September 2014, a referendum on independence was held in Scotland, but the opponents of independence won the vote.
