Singapore is an island in Southeast Asia. It was once under British rule, before merger with Malaysia, before it became independent in 1965.
In Film[]
It was mentioned in the James Bond film You Only Live Twice, when it was stated that it had tracked a spacecraft. Henderson, head of MI6's Station J, tells Bond he lost his right leg in 1942 in Singapore.
In Tomorrow Never Dies, M mentions to the Minister of Defence and Admiral Roebuck they tracked a mysterious satellite signal from their Singapore station. In her car, she revealed it as from a Carver Media Group satellite which she wouldn't wish the Prime Minister to know they were investigating Elliot Carver.
Trivia[]
- Singapore was intended to be one of the locations in the Unmade 15th Bond movie. Bond would have flown there in a Douglas DC-3, and spend some time there (including meeting the Bond girl and getting in a battle with flamethrower-equipped trucks at the airstrip), before leaving to area in the Golden Triangle, where the main villain's fortress is located.
