The Smith and Wesson Model 29 is a large caliber double-action revolver which has appeared couple of times in James Bond media. Manufactured by Smith & Wesson, it was originally introduced in 1955 as Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum, before it was renamed in 1957 per Smith & Wesson's new naming conventions. It's a Smith & Wesson "N-Frame" (large frame used for bigger cartridges) and is primarily chambered for .44 Magnum, but due to the round's parent casing, it is able to fire .44 Special and .44 Russian as well.

Fatima Blush to James Bond[src]

After James Bond escaped in his Yamaha XJ 650 Seca Turbo from SPECTRE agents, he goes to hide inside a casemate by the docks, where he gets slammed off the bike by some kind of mast. Bond tries to compose himself from the crash, when Fatima Blush orders Bond not to move, signalling that she made the mast hit him.

She goes under the mast with the Model 29 drawn at Bond and orders him to take a sitting position. She then orders Bond to relinquish his P5 gun, after which she begins to boast that, while Bond is "quite a man", but she is a "superior woman." She then threatens to shoot Bond in the groin, which prompts Bond to suggest that she is a misandrist, which she shouts to deny. She emphasizes that Bond making love to her was the greatest pleasure he experienced, but Bond starts to needle her by insinuating that there was a girl from Philadelphia that was better than Fatima. She yells Bond to shut up and she throws a slightly crumpled paperboard to him, ordering Bond to write down that Fatima was "the greatest rapture" afforded in Bond's life.

However, this allows Bond to get his pen gun, and again, Bond vies for position by suggesting that he is bound by the MI6's secrecies act, and can't write such a thing. Fatima yells Bond to write whilist cocking the Model 29, with Bond setting the pen gun to fire. The projectile hits Fatima in the stomach but doesn't explode immediately. Fatima - thinking Bond's gambit failed - starts cackling maniacally and prepares to shoot Bond with the revolver. But then, the projectile wakes up and explodes Fatima, killing her and leaving only her fancy shoes behind.

Trivia[]

  • Model 29's appearance in 1973's Live and Let Die might have been influenced by 1971's controversial hit movie Dirty Harry, in which its protagonist Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan uses a .44 S&W Model 29 and caused a massive spike in the firearm's popularity. Though unlike its appearance in the Bond movie - where its a chromed one - Harry Callahan carried a blued Model 29.
