The Steyr TMP is a submachine gun/machine pistol developed by the Austrian company Steyr. TMP is an abbreviation for "Tactical Machine Pistol" and was developed to compete with the H&K MP5K, with the aim of being not only the more sophisticated of the two, but also costing less. At the time of its release, the price was 65% that of the MP5K, and it is smaller and lighter than the MP5K thanks to the extensive use of resin parts and the horizontal arrangement of the mechanism.

The magazine is arranged like an Uzi, which is stored in the grip like an automatic pistol, so there is little change in the center of gravity due to a decrease in remaining bullets. The safety device/selector is a cross-bolt type, and it is semi-auto when pushed halfway, and full auto when pushed all the way. It is also designed with the premise that peripheral equipment can be attached as necessary, making it easy to combine it with a silencer, gun stocks, etc. There is also the SPP (Special Purpose Pistol) for civilian use, which removes the full auto function and vertical foregrip.

Steyr sold the design was in 2001 to a Swiss weapons developer, Brügger & Thomet, who now produce the weapon under the name the Brügger & Thomet MP9.

History[]

The World Is Not Enough (film)[]

The Steyr TMP is used by some of the henchmen of Renard (or Elektra). They first appear in the hands of the Parahawk assassins who attack Bond and Elektra at the Caucasus mountains. One of Renard's men is seen using it at the Kazakhstan Nuclear Test Facility.

The World Is Not Enough (video game)[]

The Steyr TMP appears in the game as the "Meyer TMP". As the reloading animation is lifted from the Ingalls Type-20, James Bond pulls back an invisible cocking knob on the top.
