The subminiature camera is an ultra-compact and portable still camera, primarily used for espionage and surveillance purposes. The British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS/MI6) utilized such devices, manufactured by their research and development division, Q-Branch. They first appeared in the 1969 James Bond film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and were subsequently seen in Moonraker (1979), and the video-games GoldenEye 007 (1997), The World Is Not Enough (2000), and Nightfire (2002).
With the prevalence of modern all-in-one technology, the spy role of the humble subminiature camera was eventually merged with that of the smartphone for future 007 titles.
