- "An ordinary tin of talcum powder. Inside, a tear-gas cartridge. That goes in the case against the side here, like that. It's magnetised, so it won't fall. Shut the case. Now, normally, to open a case like that, you move the catches to the side. If you do, the cartridge will explode, in your face. Now, to stop the cartridge exploding, turn the catches horizontally, like that."
- ― Q to James Bond
The Talcum Powder Gas Bomb was a defensive gadget created by Q Branch, which allowed James Bond to protect items within his Attaché Case from anybody attempting to steal it.
History[]
From Russia with Love (film)[]
In preparation for James Bond's mission to Russia to obtain the Lektor, he was provided with the Attaché Case by Q. During the demonstration of the case, which was observed by M, Q presented Bond was a seemingly ordinary tin of talcum powder, which he explained held a tear gas cartidge inside. Q explained that the tin could be attached to the inside of the case with a magnet, and the case was rigged, so if it was not opened in the correct way, the tear gas would explode in the user's face, as Q had Bond practice opening the case in the correct way.
Once Bond and Tatiana Romanova had been capture by Red Grant, Bond was able to appeal to Grant's greed, explaining that there were fifty golden sovereigns, showing these from his first case to Grant. Bond was able to trick Grant into opening the second case himself, which Grant did incorrectly, causing the Talcum Powder Gas Bomb to explode in Grant's face, temporarily blinding him. Bond then used this moment to his advantage, battling Grant until he was able to gain control of Grant's Garotte Wristwatch and strangled him to death.
