Real name[]

Since, in my research thus far, I can't find any reference to Octopussy being named "Octavia Charlotte Smythe", I'm afraid I'm going to have to remove those references from the article. She's not referred to as anything other than "Octopussy" in both the film and in promotional materials (such as trading cards, articles etc.). If anyone can provide confirmation from an EON-affiliated source of the Octavia name I'll reinsert it, but it looks highly dubious. - AndyTGD (talk) 21:42, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Personally, I found several sources by typing the name into the internet search bar but none of them are affiliated with EON. However, given that the name is found in several sources, is that enough to count it? Knowing that she is the daughter of Dexter Smythe, is it enough to consider that her last name is "Smythe"?
Here are several sources :

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086034/trivia
I ask this because I know of a few examples in the films (such as Raoul Silva) that were not referred to under their full names in the films but their names were counted because they were mentioned by several sources.

Trading card 001 by Rittenhouse (2013)
That's an excellent question. Imo, the difference is that we have some fairly authoritative sources for the "Raoul" name - such as MI6-HQ, Field and Chowdhury's Some Kind of Hero, Edlitz's The Lost Adventures of James Bond, LIFE magazine's 2020 James Bond issue, and officially licenced merchandise such as Rittenhouse's 2013 Skyfall trading cards. The name appears to originate with Purvis and Wade's first draft screenplay (http://www.007.com/focus-week-skyfall/), wherein the official EON author states he was "a villain called Raoul Sousa (changed to Silva)". However, disconcertingly, a Google search shows no trace of the "Octavia" name really until about eight years ago. References to the name typically seem to be quoting each other, or even us, rather than any authoritative source. In our case, it seems to have crept in via the infobox. I think its pretty likely her last name is also Smythe, and while the name seem appropriately Bondian, I'm concerned this could be another case of "Dolly's braces". I'll keep up the hunt for where the name originated.

http://www.jamesbondwiki.com/page/Octopussy_(character) It states her real name on this website - Zekefrain
Respectfully, the site in question doesn't provide a reference for where the name came from and they are not a primary or secondary source. I could log in right now and change her name to "Octavia Barbara Smythe", but that wouldn't make it true or a reliable source. In fact, sadly, this tends to be how a lot of misinformation ends up on Wikis. We need to find it on official merchandise, screenplays, commentaries etc. If it can't be found anywhere it needs to be removed. AndyTGD (talk)
