Transworld Consortium is a fictional Kensington-based company which acts as a cover for the British Secret Service. The organisation was introduced in Ian Fleming's posthumous 1965 novel, The Man with the Golden Gun, as the replacement for the now-defunct "Universal Export". The Transworld Consortium cover returned in the first post-Fleming novel, Colonel Sun by Kingsley Amis, but would not be used again in any subsequent literary continuities and, to date, has not been mentioned in the EON Productions James Bond films.

Appearances[]

Between the second Ian Fleming novel, Live and Let Die, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the British Secret Service operated under the cover organisation, "Universal Export". However, by the time the latter took place, it is noted that the cover story was all but finished. After almost having his cover blown, James Bond muses, "As cover, solid cover, Universal was 'Brûlé' with the pros. It had been in use too long. All the secret services in the world had penetrated it by now. Obviously Blofeld knew all about it."[1] In The Man with the Golden Gun it is revealed that the now-defunct cover has been officially replaced with a new one - "Transworld Consortium".[2] Bond thought it a "splendidly vague title which could cover almost any kind of human activity".[3] Throughout the novel, 007 operates under the alias "Mark Hazard", claiming to be doing business with the West Indies Sugar Company.
