Turkey is a country on the boundaries of Europe and Asia. Its unique position has ensured it is an entrepot between the two continents, and its chief city, Istanbul also spans the Straits which connect the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. This makes it of great strategic importance.
Turkey is also former colonial power, and was the first in Europe to collapse. It used to rule North Africa, the Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe, after it was seized from the Greeks. This legacy can be seen in some of its grand buildings.
James Bond goes to Istanbul in both novel From Russia with Love and James Bond does the same thing in feature film From Russia with Love.
James Bond is also in Istanbul in The World Is Not Enough.
In Skyfall, James Bond is there with Moneypenny trying to stop Raoul Silva's mercenary Patrice.
