The Walther WA 2000 is a semi-automatic bullpup sniper rifle, that's primarily featured in the James Bond video games, as well as a notable appearance in the 1987 James Bond movie The Living Daylights.

It was introduced in 1981 by the Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen company. It was produced in three different calibers; the 7.62x51mm NATO, the .300 Winchester Magnum and the 7.5x55mm Swiss caliber. Production of the rifle was limited and it was shortly stopped in 1988, because it was too expensive to achieve widespread sales.

Film appearances[]

The Living Daylights (film)[]

James Bond uses a Walther WA 2000 sniper rifle given to him by Vienna station chief Saunders to fire at the KGB sniper that turns out to be Kara Milovy.

After Bond inspects the WA 2000, Saunders offers him some ammunition. He assumes he would want the soft-nosed rounds. However, Bond prefers steel-tipped rounds, which he loads into the WA 2000, noting that KGB snipers usually wear body armor.

Video Game appearances[]

GoldenEye 007 (2010 game)[]

The WA is a high-powered sniper rifle found in GoldenEye 007. Bond comes across it during the Outpost campaign level attached with a silencer. It is also a usable weapon in the multiplayer splitscreen, and it the online multiplayer. Online, it is unlocked by a player at rank 47 on the Wii version and at rank 34 on the Reloaded version. It is the second-to-last sniper rifle unlocked, and deals high damage with a high rate of fire. However, it has a relatively small clip, slow draw time, and slow reload.

007 Legends[]

It can be found in the Space Station single player mission, and can be unlocked online at rank 27. Its stats are extremely similar to those found in GoldenEye 007 (2010).

Trivia[]

  • The sniper rifle featured in GoldenEye 007 (1997) has the same scope as the WA2000 from The Living Daylights. However, it is not the same gun as WA2000, as in the cancelled 2005 XBLA remaster its depicted as a non-descript bolt-action rifle, akin to Ruger Model 77.
  • Due to the high cost of the rifle, only 176 units were ever produced; 10 of which are owned by Earl J. Sheehan Jr., President of Walther USA. The rifle is currently rare and very valuable.
  • The protagonist from the video game series Hitman, Agent 47, uses a WA2000 as his sniper rifle of choice. The level 47 unlock on the Wii version of GoldenEye 007 is also a Hitman reference.
