Wavekrest Marine Research was a fictional marine research company owned by entrepreneur and criminal, Milton Krest. Ostensibly engaged in a project to feed the Third World via genetic research, the business was actually a front for drug smuggling and other illicit operations. It was created for the 1989 James Bond film Licence to Kill and appeared in its accompanying novelisation by John Gardner.
History[]
Licence to Kill (film)[]
After Sanchez's arrest, his escape from FBI custody is facilitated by Ed Killifer, a corrupt DEA agent, and a Wavekrest submarine. Following this, Sanchez's three lieutenants (Dario, Perez and Braun) kidnap Felix Leiter, the agent responsible for his arrest, and take him to the Ocean Exotica warehouse. Sanchez, Krest, Killifer, Dario, Perez and Braun then witness Leiter being lowered into a shark tank, which horribly mutilates him.
A friend of Leiter's, James Bond, an off-duty MI6 agent who has come to assist the DEA, then takes it upon himself to pursue Sanchez and his associates in an effort to dismantle his operation in revenge for Leiter's torture and the murder of his wife. He begins by investigating the Ocean Exotica warehouse and although Krest claims it is a legitimate business, Bond is suspicious and breaks into the warehouse and discovers the truth. The Briton also kills two Wavekrest security guards and Killifer, who had the misfortune to be in the warehouse at the time. The next day, Bond infiltrates Wavekrest (Krest's vessel) to continue his investigations. He discovers that his ally Sharkey has been murdered by a Wavekrest employee and kills the latter in revenge before stealing his air tank and destroying the shipment. He then escapes by hijacking a seaplane while Krest looks on helplessly.
Much later, Bond manages to convince Sanchez that Krest is embezzling his money. Having previously placed a large sum of money stolen by foiling the shipment in a decompression chamber on the Wavekrest, Bond persuades Sanchez to kill Krest. Convinced of the truth of 007's statement, the enraged drug lord throws Krest into a decompression chamber and brutally murders him. Presumably Wavekrest was shut down after this, or perhaps after Sanchez himself was killed and his cartel wiped out.
