Weather or Not was the fiftieth episode of the 1991 animated television series, James Bond Jr, produced by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Animation. Written by Francis Moss and Ted Pedersen, the episode first aired on US television on 22nd November 1991.
Plot[]
The episode opens in London, where Skullcap and two subordinates on jet-powered skis rob an armoured van during an artificial snowstorm. Meanwhile, James Bond Jr and his classmates are enjoying an outing in a nearby park as Channel 6 meteorologist, Wendy Day, reports on the freak conditions. Bond rescues her from the path of a skidding van and they all head back to the students' hotel. With the help of Bond's tech-savvy friend, I.Q., they quickly deduce that the criminal organisation, S.C.U.M., has hijacked the Meteorological Institute's new weather-control satellite and are using it to commit armed robberies across the city. With Trevor Noseworthy enforcing curfew, Bond sneaks out of the hotel disguised as a bellboy and meets Wendy at the Channel 6 building.
At his base of operations atop the Post Office Tower, mad scientist Dr. Derange determines that he needs more powerful computer hardware to increase his control over the satellite. As Wendy and Bond take to the skies in a Channel 6 helicopter they spot Skullcap fleeing with a stolen super-computer and attempt to stop him, to no avail. With his new hardware, the doctor plans to steal the Crown Jewels. Bond and Day travel to the Meteorological Institute in search of clues, but are ambushed by the Derange; who locks them in a freezing climate testing chamber. They narrowly escape using a Magnetic Pen designed by I.Q. Bond returns to the hotel, avoiding the skulking Noseworthy.
Wendy recruits one of the satellite's programmers, Hildy, to assist I.Q. in hacking it. Determining the location of Derange's base of operations, Wendy and Bond travel there by helicopter; only to be detected and shot down. Full of booby-traps, the pair decide to scale the outside of the tower using Suction Cups. Mid-way an artificial hailstorm forces them inside; with Bond cutting through a window using his wristwatch's circular saw. Inside, they play a game of cat and mouse with Derange's men, eventually tricking them into slipping on a wet floor and sliding into a descending elevator. As the pair confront the mad scientist, Hildy and I.Q. manage to power down the satellite's solar panels; draining its internal power reserves and rendering it inactive. In revenge, Derange attempts to shoot Bond; destroying the control computer and triggering its self-destruct. As the Doctor escapes by jet-pack, Wendy and Bond are forced to parachute to safety using Emergency Mini Parachutes.
They return to the hotel, where Noseworthy's ineptitude is exposed and he trips on a rug, falling onto Milbanks - more of a lapdog, than a watchdog.
