The Wristwatch Grapple is a fictional, wearable grappling device disguised as an Omega Seamaster wristwatch. The device was developed by the British Secret Intelligence Service's (SIS/MI6) research and development division, Q-Branch, and appeared in the 1999 James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, its novelization, and video games.
History[]
The World Is Not Enough (film)[]
A staple during Pierce Brosnan's tenure as James Bond, the Omega-branded gadget wristwatch appeared briefly during 1999's The World Is Not Enough. It is utilized by 007 in his escape from a blast pit at a Kazakh decommissioning silo. The device is gripped by its wristband and, when activated, a metal piton extends from behind the crown switch. When fired, the piton embeds in a suitable surface and its trailing filament cord winds back, lifting the operator. The film's novelization explains that the miniature grappling hook comes with fifty feet of high-tensile filament, able to support eight hundred pounds.[2] In addition, the novelization wristwatch is equipped with dual lasers.[2]
The World Is Not Enough (video game)[]
Released by Electronic Arts in 2000 to tie-in with the 1999 film of the same name, The World Is Not Enough wristwatch expanded on the features of its film counterpart by adding a high-powered laser beam that can cut open locks.[1]

Trivia[]
- The film's novelization would expand on 007's Q-Branch briefing scene, introducing the wristwatch with an oddly prescient "Your nineteenth, I believe? Try not to lose this one, all right?"[2] While not present in the film, similar dialogue would appear in 2002's Die Another Day.
